Dubai Airport passport officer 'was not messing with the phone'
GDRFA warns social media users to check facts after claiming officer was using phone during Mohammad inspection
Social media users have been told to check their facts after a Dubai Airport passport officer was accused of being on his mobile phone during Sunday’s surprise inspection by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The officer in question was actually carrying out his duties, as pointed out by a series of tweets from Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs.
“The officer used official tools: the entry stamp and passport. He was not messing around with his phone, as claimed by social media users,” the tweets said.
“The GDRFA urges social media users to verify the authenticity of sources of information and not spread rumours.”
Pictures released by the GDRFA show the officer clearly holding a stamp, and not the mobile phone suggested by social media users.
